Ring the bells, Yuletide is back for the winter season!
This is our second year delivering Yuletide down the chimney, and we are absolutely chuffed with the result again, bringing a truly exceptional blend of two cracking single origins to you. In creating Yuletide, we like to pay homage to warming winter flavours, and celebrating some excellent speciality coffee in the process. Blended in mind of being a proper all-rounder that will awaken the senses on these dark mornings!
Our tasting notes give big bold notes of creme caramel, rounded off with subtle undertones of cinnamon and molasses - super sweet and full bodied with loads of complexity to boot.
This year we've gone for a very unconventional mixture of single origins; a classic staple in speciality coffee but rarely roasted by us, a honey process Honduran from the El Chollo farm, mixed with our first ever roast from Zambia, a natural process courtesy of the Mount Sunzu co-operative.
This is for limited time only so snap it up while you have the chance!
60% Honduras - El Chollo
Bringing the base to Yuletide is El Chollo, a small farm in Quilaperque owned by Carlos Meijia (El Chollo being his nickname in his youth) with roughly 16 hectares of coffee grown at El Chollo, along with a hectare of citrus fruits, processing roughly 400 bags a year for export.
Carlos is the lead operator of CONEXH, a fifth generation family exporter of Honduran Speciality Coffee in the Montecillos Sierra, operating roughly 10 farms producing sun-dried and honey process speciality green coffee. Primarily, varietals are IHCAFE 90 and Red Catuai at these farms.
We've decided to go with a honey process where the cherries are de-pulped and left to ferment with the mucilage on the beans, with a drying time on cloth, on patio of 12-15 days depending on the forecast of weather.
40% Zambia - Mount Sunzu
We're delighted to roast our first ever Zambian! We're brought Mount Sunzu by our mates at Omwani, whom continue to do incredible work in East Africa, bringing never before seen regional speciality coffee to the UK market, we're big fans.
Mount Sunzu is based in northern Zambia, Mbala, close to the border with Tanzania. All coffee grown here is designated as speciality and dedicated to bringing greater sustainability to speciality coffee growing through environmental responsibility and bringing new farming technology to their project, giving incredible opportunity for education in the local community. This includes funding a modern irrigation system (as seen photo!), solar energy farming and protecting / re-foresting 600 hectare of the nearby Miombo forest in the local area as part of an effort towards conservation and bio-diversity.
Mount Sunzu brings the sweet subtle notes to Yuletide.
