A welcome return to Myanmar, we've secured a bumper lot of A Lel Chaung, which we are delighted to have as not only a single origin, but also as a part of our Fellside Blend alongside our seasonal Brazil (Ridgeline).
Myanmar, previously known as Burma, has a particularly storied recent history; only declaring their independence as a nation in 1948 - with speciality coffee only starting to be grown in the years from 2011, after political reforms drove for a better agricultural program, eradicating opium growth. Our friends Christian and Shirani from Indochina Coffee have helped drive education in this sector, with their first shipment of coffee being the first to come from Myanmar to the UK in 2017. They have helped farmers to sell for higher prices and produce incredible quality.
A Lel Chaung is brought to us by the Shwe Taung Tu farmers, translating roughly to 'Golden Farmers' - with over 3000 Danu and Pa-O small holder farmers working in tandem, over 60% of these farmers are female producers. Cherries are hand sorted after picking by hand for maximum quality control.
This is an exceptionally clean taste profile, with notes of vanilla, caramel and red berry being the top highlights - a perfect easy drinker, suitable for all brewing methods.
